What is Splash Family?
West Texas Splash Family is an organization looking to give any and every kid an opportunity that they wouldn't have had before. Whether it is through basketball tournaments, skills training, exposure camps, or even highlights. The number one goal of this organization is to see each and every participant succeed. We are not limited to one city, one coach, or one club organization we want to see everyone get the exposure they deserve, after all it's a West Texas thing!
Coach T- Program/Tourney Director
Tagan "Coach T"Betts was born and raised in Amarillo, Tx. His father served as a basketball official exposing him to the gym at a young age. Before graduating from Amarillo High in 2012, Coach T was a three year letter winner for the basketball team helping lead the Sandies to two district titles. He then furthered his education attending Tarrant County College for two years, with a GPA of 3.5. After receiving the news he was legally blind, Coach T returned to Amarillo in 2015 where he would undergo the first of two cornea transplant surgeries. After a successful first surgery Coach T went on to create the WTX Splash Family program, and is now one of the most prominent young tournament directors and skills trainers in West Texas. Today he has 20/20 vision!
Coach Brockman- Assistant Director/Skills Trainer
Garrett was born in Amarillo, TX. At a young age Garrett began participating in Kids Inc basketball. After playing on the B Team in previous years, It wasn't until his Junior year at Amarillo High that he began to take the game more seriously. Helping lead the Sandies to a district title his senior year. After graduating from AHS in 2012, Garrett went on to attend West Texas A&M for two years while working as a school bus driver but eventually was compelled to pursue basketball again. In 2014 he tried out for and made the WT men's basketball team as a walk on. After a semester with the WT men's basketball team Garrett received a scholarship that would help him finish his degree. He graduated in 2017 with a double major in marketing and economics, and a minor in communication.
Coach Upson- Camp Director/Skills Trainer
Devonte Upson was born in Amarillo, TX. Devonte started his basketball career playing club basketball in the 2nd Grade, his passion for the game did not began to grow until his time at Tascosa High School. Devonte played varsity basketball at Tascosa HS before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado and attending Harrison HS. It was during his time in Colorado that he grew six inches in height. After a two year stint at Trinidad JC, Devonte went on to play Division 1 basketball for Southeastern Louisiana where he graduated with a masters degree in General Studies. Today, Devonte divides his time between Europe where he plays professional basketball and West Texas where he directs several summer camps and supporting the Splash Family with skills training.
